America seeks to develop green energy from waves
According to the American Chronicle of Houston on August 5, US scientists are seeking to turn ocean wave energy into the nation's latest green energy source.
US space engineers are using artificial seawater tanks from Texas A&M University to test the idea of placing underwater turbines, through which wave energy turns spinning turbines to generate electricity.
Mr. Stefan Siegel - head of the research team at the university said, the idea comes from the idea that if wind energy can generate electricity, the waves can also do that.
He says ocean wave energy is studied after wind energy for decades, but all the energy sources that exist in the ocean are worth considering.
Siegel stressed: "The wind is not always there, so does the Sun, not every day, but the waves always exist."
Siegel's team is developing similar ocean wave energy extraction devices like airplane propellers or wind turbine bars.
According to the design, ocean wave energy extraction equipment is placed under the sea surface, the ocean waves will make the two rotors rotate around a central axis and attached to a device that converts mechanical energy into electricity serving Living.
The ocean wave energy exploration model being studied is about 1/10 the size of real equipment, creating 370w during testing in artificial seawater tanks and with improved design, the real version will Manufactured 5mw, enough to power 3,000-4,000 households.
Based on the test results, the team plans to design improvements with a larger model and hope to test in Houston waters in 2014.
