America: tornadoes cause heavy damage
On March 1, tornadoes in many states, including the heaviest losses were Alabama and Missouri, with at least 19 people dead and destroying many homes, including a school.
According to Scott Stanzel, a White House spokesman, tornadoes in Alabama killed 18 people, including 13 victims in a school in the small town of the collapsed Enterprise. According to the local government, the tornado happened at 13:15 (local time) so the students could not go home.
Rescuers said many students were crushed and stuck under the crumbling pile of collapsed school roofs. The search for victims here lasted until midnight 1-3, so the number of victims could increase after the rescue is completed.
Initial statistics indicate that at least five students were killed. In addition, the state of Alabama has more than 50 injured people hospitalized. Meanwhile, preliminary records indicate that Missouri state has one death.
Alabama Governor Bob Riley asked the Federal government to strengthen 100 members of the National Guard to help with rescue at Enterprise, which is suffering serious damage from natural disasters. The whirlwinds also swept through Florida, Georgia and South Carolina
According to the US Meteorological Agency, these tornadoes are part of a low-pressure storm involving snowstorms spreading from Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico.
