Tornadoes ravaged America, 100 casualties

Reuters reported that at least six people were killed and 100 injured when tornadoes swept across the northern part of central Texas (US) when it was dark and authorities said the death toll could be also increased when rescue workers were still searching in the ruins of destroyed houses.

At least three tornadoes spilled into the area on the night of May 15, destroying houses and rolling up the roots of trees. These are the most intense tornadoes since the beginning of the year.

The hardest hit was Granbury, which had 8,000 inhabitants, about 56km southwest of Dallas-Fort Worth.

Hood County Sheriff, Roger Deeds, said all six people were killed at Rancho Brazos, a suburb of Granbury.

Deeds also said there are still 14 people missing and authorities hope to find people still trapped in the ruined houses.

Bulldozers are clearing roads for people in the area to get out of their homes. There is currently no estimate of the extent of property damage.

The tornado season in the US usually begins in the states of the Gulf of Mexico coast at the end of winter, and then moves north. Tornadoes will peak at around May and weaken in July.
