But biologists often call both males and females an antique fruiting bird.

In winter, males and females look no different, except for the larger size of the male. The upper part of the upper body is dark brown, and the chest is dark and the abdomen is white.

But when it comes to the spring, the mating season of the Philomachus pugnax bird, the usual appearance of the male birds disappears - it now looks like they have turned into another kind of bird. The male has put on a very colorful new coat. What is special is that males "transform" into completely different colors. At this time it was difficult to find two males with the same coat: white, with brown, some cream, chestnut, dark yellow, speckled, striped, . Besides, they also have a large frill around their heads and neck. That is why they are called ancient valiant birds.

It is also interesting to note that at some time during the spring, many males of Philomachus pugnax gather together in one place - usually on a bare hill.

There they show off their colorful hair just to attract females. While the females came to practice around the male's "stage" and watched, the boys proved heroic by kicking each other: the frill of the neck hair, the wings open, and they rushed to each other then fiercely biting and kicking, . now they look even more beautiful.

The performance of the boys ended when the boys collapsed, the plug into the ground. That is when the female birds intervene in the arena to choose a partner. Each female chooses a drum. Normally females and males are separated, except for a brief period of mating in the spring.

After mating, the female lays eggs in a hole in the ground in the grass. Eggs are hatched by the mother from 20-21 days. Young birds can leave the nest in a short time just after hatching. The female bird only takes care of her baby for many days.

Philomachus Bird pugnax has an average length of about 25cm. Their main food is insects. This bird is present in many places in Europe, Asia and Africa.
