Detecting small birds like grasshoppers living with dinosaurs

That size makes it one of the smallest birds that ever existed.

The houses have discovered a small-sized bird like grasshoppers living at the same time as dinosaurs, the largest animal ever existed on Earth.

When not extinct, this bird has a length of more than 2cm (mature can reach 5cm) and weighs only about 8.5 grams.

The newly discovered bird is only as small as a grasshopper.

That small size makes it one of the smallest birds that ever existed. The fossils of this bird have been preserved quite well until now, it may belong to the family Enantiornithes .

It is unclear whether this bird is an independent species discovered or belonging to a family that has been previously identified. Fossils of this bird are found in Central Spain.

Fanbian Knoll, home of the University of Manchester, said the modern analysis showed that the newly discovered little bird died soon after hatching from its egg. Sternum is not even developed, still mainly cartilage. This proves that it cannot fly at the time of death.

Based on the analysis, the bird died soon after it was hatched from the egg.

Its bone structure is also quite different from other Enantiornithes that have been discovered for years to show the diversity of ancient birds.

According to the researchers' judgment, it may not be possible to fly when hatching and depends on parents providing food and care.

Studies of other fossils of this bird are now located in Spain's Museum of Paleontology Castilla - La Mancha, Cuenca.
