Animal intelligence

The question is not whether animals are intelligent or not, but how smart are they?

Monkey species in general seem to be able to do addition operations. They plan, fight and restore peace. They can express empathy, sharing. That's why Duke University's Brian Hare (USA) once remarked: 'The question is not whether they think or not, but how do they think?'

Every year scientists discover more evidence that animals are becoming more intelligent and have more social relationships than they think, especially in primates. This month, experts completed the decoding of the bonobo gorilla genome, and their gene detection was only 1.3% different from humans, according to AFP quoted Josep Call team leader of Max Planck Institute at Virtue. Experiments show that orangutans and zoo bonobos are able to arrange items needed for eating before being moved elsewhere, similar to how humans prepare luggage during long trips.

The memory of monkeys is also respectable. Expert Joel Fagot of the French National Center for Monkey Detection Science Research can remember at least 10,000 images or more. In Japan, a chimp named Ayumu is known for his ability to use sticks to hit the number of whips that appear briefly on the screen, while the orangutan monkey at Miami Zoo knows to use the iPad. Scientists once said that the ability to control emotions, express sympathy and social communication is a distinguishing feature of people with the rest of primate relatives. However, in fact chimpanzees can fight and then comfort their companion who is falling into a melancholy mood by wrapping his arms around the subject.

The study in June this year also found that black bears can count simple numbers, like the ability of pigeons. In particular, the dolphin, with a brain weight 25% heavier than humans, can recognize their image in the mirror. Recent research by Wayne State University in Michigan has revealed the mystery behind the dazzling intelligence of dolphins.

It can be said that on the evolutionary path, dolphins have an unusual speed of intellectual development. All thanks to the gene mutation selectively related to the brain and metabolism.

In dogs, the ability to observe and understand humans has helped them become the best friends of humankind. For example, dogs can run in the direction of their master's hand, something that monkeys can't do. And elephants are known for their ability to share, support and empathize. That's why people use elephant power to do heavy work. In the wild environment, experts saw the elephants joining forces to rescue their fellow fellows.
