On June 18, 2013, the National Assembly passed the Law on Science and Technology, which stipulates the annual date of May 18 is 'Vietnam Science and Technology Day'. And on May 18, the Ministry of Science and Technology officially organized a ceremony to announce Vietnam's Science and Technology Day on May 18.

In the speech at the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed: Vietnam Science and Technology Day is not only to honor scientists and scientific and technological achievements, propagate and disseminate scientific knowledge but also raise awareness, arousing pride in Vietnamese intelligence, a spirit of passion for creative labor in the people of all strata, especially the younger generation.

'That pride and noble spirit must be fostered to become the most important and most powerful endogenous motivation - human resources - to serve the cause of national construction and defense,' Thu General stressed.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung also appreciated the contributions of science and technology in all areas of the nation's revolutionary career in the past, the cause of national defense, construction and development today.

However, the Prime Minister frankly pointed out that S&T activities in the past are still limited, not really becoming a driving force for socio-economic development.

'The mobilization of social resources into science and technology activities has not been properly focused. The training and application of remuneration for science and technology staff are still inadequate. The mechanism for managing science and technology activities has been slow to be renewed , 'the Prime Minister said.
