Apple builds 'sun fields'
In Tim Cook's talk at the Goldman Sachs Tech Conference 2015, Apple CEO said the company is building a "solar field" in Monterey, California county with a total area of up to 530 hectares and costs. About $ 850 million According to Tim Cook, this is the biggest, most daring and most ambitious project ever.
Apple's solar fields will provide power for the company's facilities
Apple said the "solar field" will power California's facilities including 55 retail stores, the entire Campus 2 being built, other California offices and at least Apple Campus 2 is one of their data centers, in which Apple Campus 2 is expected to be the workplace of 16,000 employees in the 26-hectare campus.
Apple has partnered with First Solar to implement this project and they will be supplied with about 130 MW of electricity within 25 years of signing with First Solar. This is the largest contract in the field of providing 'clean' power to users.
It is expected that the construction of this "solar field" will be completed by the end of 2016, at the same time that Apple will build Campus 2. Apple now has several other photovoltaic plants including a 55 hectare in Data center design in Reno, Nevada and 2 others with 'solar fields' near the data center in Maiden, North Carolina.
When completed, the Monterey 'solar field' will be able to provide renewable electricity for 60,000 California households, according to Cook.
