Artificial breeding of marine ornamental fish

From the beginning of the year until now, Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography has successfully produced nearly 4,000 ancient cavity fish, a species of fish living in coral areas. 3,000 children have been released back into the sea and nearly 1,000 have been exported to France.

Dr. Ha Le Thi Loc, Department of Aquaculture Technology - Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography just stated above.

Ancient cavity fish only live in coral reefs in tropical waters. Ancient cavity fish is also known as whale fish because in addition they always live symbiosis with anemone. At present, Vietnam has 5 species of neck cavity: red, half red, yellow, purple, black, and bright yellow.

The female neck cavity is about 12cm long, weighs 40-50g, nearly 3 times more than the male. After the female lays eggs, the male is responsible for caring for and protecting the eggs until it hatches into a baby. This time lasts about 10 days.

The ancient cavity fish is less valuable in terms of food, but thanks to its variety, richness in color and high adaptability in artificial culture conditions, these fishes have been developed quite popular in family size and in tourist and entertainment areas .

Since 2002, scientists in the Department of Aquaculture Technology - Institute of Oceanography (Nha Trang) have tested artificial reproduction of ancient caviar without the presence of Hai Quy. Food for neck cavity can be shrimp, fish, worms . The rate of one month old fish is quite high, ranging from 40.59% to 85.42%.

However, at present, the Institute of Oceanography in Nha Trang has only raised and given red-necked fish (Amphiprion frenatus Brevoort) successfully spawned in an artificial environment.

In the period of 2006 - 2008, scientists will improve breeding technology and artificial breeding fish. The time of maturing broodstock for spawning is still prolonged (18 months), so the economic efficiency has not yet been assessed.

From the beginning of the year until now, with the aim of restoring aquatic resources, 2,000 ancient cavity fish due to artificial reproduction were released in Hon Mun, 1,000 were released in Van Phong bay. In addition, in mid-August 2007, the Institute of Oceanography of Nha Trang exported about 1,000 ancient caviar fish to France. Wholesale price in the ornamental fish market for the neck caviar is from 4,000 - 10,000 VND / head.

In recent years, the demand for ornamental fish in domestic and foreign markets has been increasing, which has boosted the exploitation of ornamental fish and ornamental organisms in the wild. In 1999, a study showed that an average of 160,000 marine fish caught each month.

Therefore, the research on technology of artificial seed production and commercial farming of red-necked caviar is also a measure to contribute to reducing the load of exploiting natural resources and at the same time providing marine ornamental fish sources for the domestic market. and the world.
