Auction to be named for fish

For years, philanthropists have lent their names to art galleries, to school gates and to hospitals. But in the auction here, they can put their names on some new fish - all for charity.
Thursday, September 20, an auction to name 10 new fish species will be organized by Monaco-Asia (a non-profit, Monaco-based agency).
These fish are among a few dozen new species discovered by the International Conservation Organization in the exploration of coral reefs along Indonesia's Papua coastline in 2006.
The auctioneer from all over the world will be at the festival at Monaco's Oceanographic Museum, placed on a steep slope on the Mediterranean.
This is not the first auction to name species. In 2005, an unnamed online auction house won the right to name a new monkey species in Bolivia at a charity price of US $ 650,000. But this is the first time, many species are auctioned at the same time at such a single event.
