Birth control pills prevent menstruation

The US Food and Drug Administration has approved the release of a birth control pill that can eliminate women's monthly periods. The drug is called Lybrel, produced by Wyeth pharmaceutical company.

It contains two hormones which are widely used on oral contraceptives, levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol.

Traditional contraceptives are usually taken continuously for 21 days, then 7 days by placebo or no medication, to create time for menstruation to occur. For many years, some women who took regular, regular contraceptives also had a period of menstrual cessation. However, Lybrel was the first drug to be approved for this purpose.
