Bringing Arctic ice to Paris to

The display of 12 Arctic ice sheets in France has a special meaning, while global leaders are discussing measures to limit global temperature rise.

Show Arctic ice to show the impact of climate change

"I hope my works will impress everyone, it shows that the climate challenges we are facing are palpable, which makes people do anything. that they previously thought was quite abstract about climate change, I hope it will inspire the sharing of the commitment to action in the face of climate change ", artist Olafur Eliasson, author of the exhibition. Art called Ice Watch said.

With a total volume of 80 tons, these blocks were taken from large ice sheets in Nuup Kangerlua Bay, outside the city of Nuuk, Greenland, an autonomous region of Denmark. From November 13, they were displayed at the Pantheon Palace, a burial place for famous people such as Voltaire and Victor Hugo.Greenland ice sheets are ice sheets formed by falling snow over millions of years, they are now melting into the sea, melting or breaking from large blocks.

After divers diverged from the Arctic, 12 blocks were transported in 6 frozen boxes from Nuuk to Aalborg, Denmark by ship and to Paris by truck.

"When I look at these ice blocks and touch them, I can feel that the earth is heating up. Ice sheets that could be formed millions of years ago are melting. This speed is quite fast because I go. Come here every day since the exhibition, " Herve Lavifve, a Parisian, told PV.

According to Lavifve, referring to climate change, many people are quite worried, but are not aware of its impact.

Ice Watch is part of the "Artists Acting for COP21 Global Conference" initiative . This activity took place while representatives of 195 countries met in Paris to arrive at a binding commitment to keep the earth's temperature from exceeding 2 degrees Celsius by the end of the century.

Olafur Eliasson, born in 1967, is a famous artist in photography, film, sculpture, installation and architecture. He had a weather show at Tate Modern, London 2003, with about two million visitors, and New York City Waterfalls in 2008.

According to organizers, Greenland lost 200 to 300 billion tons of ice every year, the number will increase even more. This ice will lead to sea level rise. Water from ice melted from Greenland caused sea level to rise by nearly 0.3 mm per year and the amount of water is also increasing rapidly. In 2015, sea level increased by 0.7 mm. Before the end of the 21st Century, the temperature in the North Pole could increase by more than 3 degrees Celsius, making the iceberg in Greenland more turbulent. If all ice here dissolves, sea water will increase by 7 m. Each ice sheet weighs about 10 tons, they are melting into the ocean. Greenland takes 1,000 blocks per second for the year.
