Mr. Tran Ngoc Son is one of 6 households raising salamanders in Ba Ngoi ward, Cam Ranh town, Khanh Hoa province. After nearly a year of experimental farming, the number of salamanders sold over 100 kg brought to his family income of over 15 million dong, nearly equal to the capital that he invested.
According to Mr. Son, the salamand can be raised and sold all year round, raising salamanders favorably because of low investment costs. With 20 to 25 million VND, Mr. Son and others can complete the steps from building farms to stocking. The ability to reproduce in captivity environment of salamanders has attracted farmers because they only invest in the breeds in the initial stages, the following crops can use the seed source to reproduce right at the farm.
At present, scientists are considering supplying seeds to households that raise salamanders, because at present most seed sources depend on natural fishing.
