According to a study by a team of University of Utrecht, Netherlands, cardboard boxes can make cats feel less stressed because when sheltering here, they seem to be less disturbed.
In the wild, these small shelters will be an advantage for cats to easily chase prey from afar and retreat. However, when raised in the home, this will be a way to help them avoid the angry acts of the owner. Tables and chairs may also be positions to replace paper boxes.
According to Independent, in the 2006 study, scientists also found that paper boxes work to keep this animal warm. Cardboard boxes are usually multi-layer, so they will insulate and help them avoid cold wind. This trait can be interpreted similarly when cats sleep on cushions or prefer to stay in the sunshine rather than under the shade.
