According to the Xinjiang Regional Bureau of Mining and Geological Development, the gold mine was discovered in Uqar district, west of Xinjiang, bordering Kyrgyzstan.

"It is estimated that the reserves of this gold mine will exceed 200 tons," said Cui Hongbin, head of the research team.

The discovery not only increased China's gold production, to 211.7 tons in the first half of this year, but also generated revenue and employment locally, Cui added.

The Xinjiang regional mineral geological exploitation and development office has more than 20 years of searching and exploring the area. Geological workers have found more than 20 blocks of gold ore in a 20-square-kilometer area in Sawayaerdun.

The discovery of the new gold mine has attracted the attention of many major mining companies in China who want to cooperate in development.

In 2013, the Xinjiang Regional Mining and Mineral Development Office also discovered two gold mines with reserves of more than 50 tons each in Xinyuan and Hejing districts.
