China issues a set of 3 gold and silver coins to celebrate the first Mars exploration mission

To celebrate the success of its first mission to orbit and land on Mars, China has released a new set of gold and silver coins.

Accordingly, the People's Bank of China announced that they will issue a limited edition Tianwen-1 (Tianwen 1) coin on Monday (August 30), 3 months after the star probe. China's first Mars - Zhurong (Zhu Rong) discovered the red planet. Reportedly, the three coins will depict different aspects of this history-making mission.

Accordingly, the first of three new commemorative coins of the People's Bank of China weighs 150g, 60mm in diameter, depicting some of the equipment used in the mission. At the same time both images of the Martian surface taken during the lander, and also images of the spacecraft stacked.

The smaller 8g gold coin, 22mm in diameter, is engraved with the image of the lander and Zhurong rover on the surface of Mars. Finally, the 30g, 40mm silver coin will depict the Tianwen-1 orbiter orbiting Mars.

On all 3 coins are engraved the words "The success of China's first Mars exploration mission - Tianwen1" . Besides, these coins also share the same design on the other side, all engraved with the symbol of China's planetary exploration program, the country's name and the year of issue.

According to information, the large gold coin has a face value of about 2000 yuan (equivalent to about 310 USD) and is limited to only 1000 pieces. Meanwhile, the smaller gold coin has a face value of about $15.45 and is limited to 30,000 pieces. Finally, the silver coin is limited to 60,000 pieces and is worth $1.55.

The gold and silver commemorative coin set is minted by Shenzhen Guobao Mint Co., Ltd. and will be distributed by China Gold Coin Corporation. Details including the prices of the coins are yet to be announced.
