The government of Hunan Province, China, will reward 1,500 USD for the successful decoder of the mysterious inscription on the back of 6 gold coins dating from the 13th - 14th centuries.

Xinhua yesterday reported that the award was made by the Cultural Heritage Bureau in Tan Thi, Hunan. The 25 mm diameter gold coins were found in small white enamelled porcelain vases on a local farm in the 1960s. According to the Chinese classification, this is a first-class national cultural relic. Coins are currently kept at the Tan Thi district museum.

According to Peng Jia, director of the Cultural Heritage Department, the coins were minted by the Greek method of reigning in the Muslim reign of India , corresponding to the middle of the Yuan Dynasty in China (1271- 1368).

The inscription on the front of the coin is a rare Arabic form, indicating a king's name . "But the information on the back is very difficult to decipher. I have consulted many domestic and foreign experts, but have not found it. Hopefully one day, the answer will be revealed , " Peng said. share.
