NigComSat-1R of Nigeria has a life of 15 years. It was launched into orbit to promote information, television, internet, maritime and distance education services from Africa, Europe and Asia.

The satellite, produced by the China Space Technology Institute, replaces a $ 257 million model failed in 2008, due to battery charging, the Nigerian government said.
