China: The 9th bird flu outbreak

On November 14, China reported a new outbreak of bird flu in Anhui province and is the ninth outbreak in the country since October 19.

According to China's central television, the new outbreak occurred in Huainan City in Anhui Province with 800 dead birds. Test results confirmed that these birds were infected with H5N1. About 126,000 poultry within 3km of the affected area were destroyed.

This is the second bird flu outbreak within a month in Anhui province. The first outbreak was discovered on October 24 with 2,100 chickens and geese dying of bird flu.

Also yesterday, a group of six members of the World Health Organization (WHO) came to Hunan province and will stay here for a week to help China investigate cases of suspected bird flu. . So far China has not reported a case of human avian influenza, but authorities have warned that it cannot be avoided if they cannot control the outbreaks in large poultry areas.
