China's national treasure is in jeopardy

Chinese officials will set up the first center of artificial breeding Golden Gods within a year to prevent the risk of extinction of this rare primates.

The Golden Monkey Breeding Center will be located in the Shennong Nature Reserve in Hubei Province, home to about 1,200 golden monkeys, Xinhua reported.

'The center's mission is to increase the number of golden monkeys in the Spirit Farms forest by overcoming technical obstacles,' said Yang Jingyuan, director of the Shen Nong Golden Monkey Research Institute.

of the reasons they face extinction.

Chinese people regard the Golden Monkey Family as a "national treasure" like a panda. They are one of the most strictly protected Chinese laws.

In the wild environment, the ratio of the gods of the golden wild monkey to annual births is only 4% and the survival rate of baby monkeys is only about 6%.

'Scientists still do not know why the golden monkey in the Shen Nong Forest is pregnant between August and October. The golden monkey can only be pregnant once in two years , ' Yang said.

Living in dense forests at an altitude of 1,680m to 3,000m, the golden monkey in the Shepherd Spirit Conservation Area is facing the danger of extinction. They were first discovered in 1960. The first golden monkey statistics effort, conducted in the 1980s, showed only 501 golden monkeys living in the Spirit Forest.

The Shennong Monkey Monkey is a subspecies of yellow-tipped monkey nose, one of the 5 golden monkey species on earth.

Located in the midst of remote mountains in Hubei Province, the Spirit Forest is recognized by UNESCO as a world biosphere reserve since 1990. This is the UNESCO title awarded to nature reserves with fauna , unique plants and rich variety.
