Chinese sea surface is attacked by blue algae
The beaches in Shandong Province, China in the Yellow Sea are turning green due to the rapid growth of seaweed.

The phenomenon of water-covered algae is believed to be a consequence of climate change combined with industrial pollution in China.Warming seawater temperatures plus phosphorus and nitrate in fertilizers and industrial waste, become ideal conditions for algae to proliferate and spread rapidly.
The situation of Chinese sea-encroaching algae has occurred for many years. In 2013, it was estimated that marine algae spread over an area of nearly 19,500 km2, approximately the size of Wales and England. Volunteers and sanitation workers collected about 20,000 tons of algae stinking.

Earlier, algae attacked led the Chinese government to mobilize the military forces to clean up the waters of Qingdao, where boat racing was organized in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. (Photo: Reuters)
