Climate change makes sharks smaller and more gentle

Australian scientists think that climate change will make sharks smaller and less thirsty . The cause of this phenomenon may be due to increased CO 2 concentration and sea temperature.

Sharks are at small risk because of climate change

They found warmer sea temperatures would help the shark embryo grow faster. However, high temperatures and increased amounts of carbon dioxide in the water will cause sharks to consume more energy, thereby reducing their ability to hunt , according to the Daily Mail.

The result of this condition will make the shark significantly smaller. If climate experts' predictions are correct, this will happen at the end of the 21st century.

Experts in Australia discovered warm water and acidified seawater that limits shark growth and affects their sense of smell . High CO 2 levels also affect the digestion and metabolism of sharks.

Research by scientists at the University of Adelaide. They raise sharks like Port Jackson in large tanks, simulating the same conditions in the ocean and dropping prey there.

'In warm water, sharks are more hungry but because of the increased CO2, they can hardly find food. Reducing the ability to hunt will stop them from leading the food chain in the ocean, while this is needed to maintain the marine ecosystem, ' said Associate Professor Ivan Nagelkerken.
