Climate change, the world struggles for resources

The risk of conflict and competition for resources will become more intense as a result of climate change. This warning was issued in a European Union (EU) report, expected to be discussed at the summit of the bloc in Brussels from today (March 13).

In the report introduced by the Guardian newspaper, implementers drew a dark future as a result of climate change. They anticipate the possibility of a global conflict when countries competing for resources are running out. In addition, a shortage of water can also cause civil war and lead to significant economic losses, even for countries with fast-growing economies.

In the report, the authors expressed special concern about the consequences of climate change in the Arctic, warning of world security instability, especially in Europe, when countries fell rushing to find oil fields in the Arctic Sea. The EU report reiterated Russia's positive moves from last year after sending explorers to the Arctic and then Russian President Vladimir Putin honored one of these adventurers as a hero.

When the fast melting ice will open up international trade routes, and more favorable access to polar resources is changing the geopolitical situation in the region. The report said a NATO summit next month in Bucharest will first discuss the possibility of using NATO as a guarantee of European energy security.

In this situation, some countries have managed to find more resources and energy.

In recent years, Japan has made a very positive approach to Central Asia. Following the 2006 Middle Asia visit by Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, other senior officials in the Tokyo government also visited some Central Asian countries such as Uzbekistan and reached an agreement to find precious metal mines in the country. this.

The process of cooperation and dialogue between Japan and GUAM countries (including Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova) has been established, triggered by political and civil exchange activities, including promoting activities. travel. Political activities will be carried out on the basis of implementing " resource diplomacy " through Japan seeking many economic cooperation agreements with Central Asian countries. This can be seen as a race between Japan and the US, China and Russia in tightening relations with the region rich in Central Asian resources.

In the first meeting with the new President Lee Myung Bak, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Korea - a country totally dependent on imported oil and gas resources - came up with a plan to implement practical foreign policy to restore serving the national economy. Accordingly, the ministry will establish an " energy cooperation belt " with countries with large oil reserves such as Russia, countries in Central Asia, Latin America and Southeast Asia.

The Korean government plans to hold President Lee's meeting with foreign partners in the first six months of this year to discuss energy cooperation. In May next year, the Korean Government will establish an economic cooperation agency with countries in Africa and Central Asia.
