Close up of fish climbing the cave to feed
Scientists return to the image of a catfish crawling on the surface of the cave to get food.
Strange species of fish climbing the cave to feed
The BBC said the experts filmed the video when discovering the creatures that live in the cave system in Ecuador. They identified it as a catfish of Loricariidae.
To get the main food source of algae, the fish uses a mouth shaped like a straw . Thanks to this part, they can adhere to the rock surface or plants where fast water flows. According to the article published in Subterranean Biology, this is the first time scientists have observed this fish in a cave.
"It is not surprising to see a catfish crawling on the rock surface. The surprising thing is the environment where they take that action, " said lead researcher Geoff Hoese.
