Complete the flu vaccine, sleep 19 hours a day
A 6-year-old boy in England suffered from narcolepsy after a dose of flu vaccine.
Josh Hadfield lost control of his muscles and started sleeping for 19 hours a day after he was vaccinated with Pandemrix swine flu for 3 weeks.
Josh slept on the sofa next to his mother at his home
Every five minutes, the boy Josh had a sleepy attack that was irresistible, even when he was walking or swimming, in school. In addition, Josh also suffered from cataplexy attacks when he was laughing.
Caroline, mother Josh, said it had been nearly two years since the symptoms were still affecting her son. Every night, Caroline had to give Josh a snack four times and come to coax because he was often disturbed by nightmares.
Josh and his mother in rare awakenings
Previously, every time he fell asleep, Josh was sent home by the school. But now, he can take a nap in the classroom because the school has reserved a place in the classroom for Josh to sleep.
Josh is currently being treated with Ritalin and antidepressants, but he is still unable to return to his normal state.
In early 2011, the drug for Pandemrix swine flu, the viccine for preventing the H1N1 virus caused by the 2009 swine flu pandemic, injected with Josh was suspected to be related to narcolepsy in Europe.
Studies show that the number of European children suffering from narcolepsy after being given Pandemrix has increased 13 times. Similar cases like Josh were also recorded in Finland and Sweden.
Mrs. Hadfield, a civil servant, believes that the Government has not implemented adequate inspection programs before allowing it to reach millions of people.
