According to local environmental protection officials, the construction of this ' green ' bridge was carried out under the law to protect rare species of animals in the UK but it was opposed by people.

The fact that the city government spent such a large amount of money from the local budget to protect bats, according to the city newspaper, made people unhappy. They argue that the government has too much favor for these little brothers too much while not paying attention to the taxpayers themselves. They petition instead of building bridges for bats, build bridges for people, especially for children and retired people to cross the road safely and shorten the distance to a park not far away.

The bridge is expected to build only 6 ft wide, on which small trees are planted as bats. The favored bat species is called horseshoe bat, the scientific name is Rhinolophus hipposiderosi , the smallest bat living in Europe weighs only 5-9 grams, the body length is 35-45cm, of a special type rare.

The horseshoe bat population living at Porthmadog only has 450. If the amount of money invested to protect bats is counted, then gold, which is heavier than the bat itself. The plan of the environment ministry and bat protection organizations is ' at all costs ' to save this bat from extinction with an expected growth rate of 6.5% per year.

The incident turned into controversy between local government and government.
