Damage caused by phishing established a new record

The sharp increase in the number of phishing attacks in the first half of this year pulled the total losses suffered by the financial sector.

The most commonly used trick in phishing attacks is to create fake websites with legitimate websites that trick users into providing their bank account financial information.

Picture 1 of Damage caused by phishing established a new record The Transparency Services Association (APACS) said the number of phishing attacks in the first half of this year has increased more than 16 times compared to the previous figure. The total number of attacks reached 5,059 cases targeting the financial sector.

The damage that the financial industry suffered from phishing attacks in the first half of this year reached a record increase of 55%, bringing the total loss of the industry in the first half of this year to 23 million pounds.

However, the damage caused by credit card or debit card status is significantly reduced. APACS believes that the cause of this decline is thanks to the application of a new card.

Recent statistics from PhishTank show that South Korea and the US are still "oligarchs" for phishing. 40% of all phishing attacks last month originated from the US or South Korea.

In October, PhishTank found a total of 3,678 phishing sites. 24% of them are stored on servers located in the US and 14% in Korea. India stands in the next position with 8% and the UK with 4%.

PayPal and eBay are still the most attractive targets of online scammers. 67% of all phishing emails sent in October targeted the two organizations.

PhishTank is a project of OpenDNS software company with the aim of primarily operating and indexing phishing sites.
