Decode secret million years of the most giant monster on Earth

The new research shows that dinosaurs can grow and have huge sizes because they have more flexible, flexible joints than terrestrial mammals.

Huge dinosaurs, eating plants (including lizards) are much more crowded than giant mammals, who eat food and live on land. The largest lizards usually weigh more than 30 tons. Research shows that the reason for this difference may lie in their bone structure.

Researcher Matthew Bonnan of Richard Stockton University, New Jersey, USA and colleagues measured the width of the end of the femur and arm bones of mammals, dinosaurs and their descendants (reptiles and birds today) to observe changes in joints when animal size increases.

Mr. Bonnan likened cartilage like a rubber sheet that stretched over the hard end of the bone to cushion the bone. Mammal bones grow round at the edges, the cartilage stretches, is thin and stretched on the bone surface, and the dinosaur bone has more layers of cartilage when the animal size increases.

"Not only will the uniformity of pressure be distributed evenly, the joints will also be able to deform a little bit in order to withstand greater weight," Bonnan said.

Many reptiles and birds now have such flexible joints.
