Detect pure lake water near distilled water

New Zealand scientists on December 19 announced they had discovered a lake of the second highest purity in the world, which is Blue Lake in Nelson Lake National Park in the southern island, New Zealand.

Researchers from the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) said worldwide, the clarity of Blue Lake water is just behind the lakes in the Southeast and Pacific near Easter Island.

After six surveys, scientists found that the visibility across the water in the horizontal plane of Blue Lake usually ranged from 70 to 80 meters.

The view over the water at Blue Lake also surpasses Te Waikoropupu Springs in Golden Bay, which is said to have outstanding clarity with a recorded vision of 63 meters.

Blue Lake water is blue and purple in color, a color that can only be seen in the cleanest water. In the rainy season, the lake water may become a bit darker, but this view is only reduced to about 1 meter.

According to Dr. Davies-Colley, Blue Lake is a proud testament to the fact that in the land areas to conserve natural land, there are still clean water lakes reaching almost absolute optical purity.
