Detecting a poisonous snake with horns

In a biodiversity survey in a remote forest in Tanzania, scientists discovered a new snake, the Matilda snake.

The snake is about 0.6 meters long, has both black and yellow colors, and has two scales on olive-colored eyes like horns. They are currently classified as a highly endangered species in the International Union for Conservation of Nature's list of endangered species. The population of this extremely rare species is declining due to the expansion of human life, especially the snake trade in Africa.

The surviving new species of snakes are living in tropical forests interspersed with plateaus in Tanzania. They often hide under foliage to evade enemies and hunt, usually they spend most of their time in the cave.

Scientists still know very little about the biology of this horny snake, in addition to its venomous snake.
