The truth is that after being bitten by a snake, it has to find a ripe banana to eat because later it can only be offered... green bananas!

This is a very diverse snake species and is widely distributed in Vietnam. So what is their identity and are they really dangerous?

Recently, on a large Facebook page, a photo of a snake was shared, showing its back and belly, with an interesting question: "Everyone, please tell me what kind of snake is this? Is it poisonous? My brother was just bitten by it."

This question has attracted the attention and comments of many people, including a very humorous comment: "If you get bitten by this animal, quickly find a ripe banana and eat it. Because from now on, you will only be offered green bananas" (see photo below).

So what is the truth about this snake, is it really poisonous or not?

In fact, this is a gentle, harmless snake despite its fangs, and is not deadly poisonous as the above joking comment suggests. The name of this snake is the barred snake (scientific name is Oligodon octolineatus).

The special feature that helps us distinguish the barred snake from other barred snakes is that its belly has many small orange-red spots . Because of this bright color, barred snakes are often confused with venomous snakes.

In fact, the blind snake is not dangerous to humans even though it has sharp fangs (the blind snake is a rear-fang snake (the venomous teeth are located deep in the jaw) . These teeth are only responsible for breaking the shells of eggs (their favorite food).

Although it looks like a venomous snake and has sharp fangs like a kukri, a special shaped knife of the Nepalese people (hence the name kukri snake in English), these fangs are. harmless to humans!

The reason these fangs are harmless to humans is because they are connected to the Duvernoy's gland located behind the jaw, below the snake's eye (a gland commonly found in the Water Snake family), this gland does not contain venom that is dangerous to humans.

The barred snake lives in East and South Asia and Vietnam also has this snake species. Currently, there are about 78 different species of barred snakes recognized in the world, of which there are also more than 20 species of barred snakes living in Vietnam, some of which are: Oligodon pseudotaeniatus, Oligodon taeniatus, Oligodon macrurus, Oligodon arenarius.

The snake has a very beautiful pattern so it is often kept as a pet by reptile lovers.
