People have discovered dark secrets just under one of the busiest stations in London (UK).
Many skeletons have just been discovered in an ancient graveyard of about 450 years, located deep underground, just below Liverpool Street Station - now the largest building in Europe.
A skull of the ancient graveyard revealed
A total of 4,000 remains have been dug up. This ancient graveyard was built on the courtyard of Bethlem Hospital in the 1560s, used to bury the poor, religious non-conformists and insane patients in hospitals.
Bethlem Hospital was founded by Simon FitzMary in 1247. In 1403, most of the hospital patients were crazy, epileptic and insane. These patients are chained and used to be a place to attract people in London when paid services to see crazy people. Patients are mostly poor, they are "treated" by binding, submerging, beating and starving.
Archaeologist Elsden said: "This is a big discovery. Because the cemetery is located just below one of London's busiest stations. People cross this route for a long time without knowing it below. there are thousands of remains ".
Obviously this graveyard is holding secrets that we never knew. Along with the remains, there are also whips made of horse tails; the ancient Roman coins . since then reveal to modern people somewhat about life a few centuries ago.
