Detecting new frogs 'tiny', excessively placed on nails

After five years of deep exploration in India's Western Ghats, researchers have discovered seven new frog species, named "night frogs".

These newly discovered "lovely" frogs are one of the smallest creatures in the world. More specifically, four of the new species are extremely "small" , only about 1.22cm, enough to put on human fingernails.

Through DNA identification, experts claim that these are new frog species that have never been mentioned.

Although only recently discovered, the researchers warn, five of these frogs are directly threatened by extinction, and they call for an immediate conservation program.

According to experts, the Western Ghats region is considered a "hot spot" of the world's biodiversity but is seriously threatened by habitat loss from the cultivation activities of humans.

Unlike other species of frogs in the genus that often live in streams, these 7 newly discovered small frogs often hide under the canopy.

Experts have found that these tiny frogs have a habit of hiding children. After the tadpoles hatch, frogs will carry their babies on their backs and drop into small puddles on the leaves until the individual tadpoles mature and transform.

Researcher Sonali Garg said: "Small frogs inhabit quite a bit here but are often overlooked by their small size and secret habitats. They are also prey species. insects ".

However, according to experts, the discovery of these new species will provide more information about frog evolution in general.
