Developed CEP system to remove heavy metals from water

The CEP system (which performs two major functions: concentrating positive ions and converting them to solid metals, then eliminating them) operates by tracing the trace and increasing the concentration of heavy metals in country.

Engineers working at Brown University in the United States have developed the CEP system, which removes heavy metals from water. This study is in the effort to reduce the concentration of heavy metals (cadmium, copper and nickel) in contaminated water samples and convert these water samples into clean water in accordance with the specified standards.

The results of this study were published in The Chemical Engineering Journal.

In the early stages, heavy metal contaminated water is put into the tank, followed by: acid (sulfuric acid) or substrate (sodium hydroxide) will be added to change the pH of the water. Separation of water molecules from metal precipitants, located at the bottom of the reservoir. Fresh water (treated) is removed from the reservoir and other contaminated water samples are introduced.

This process is repeated until the metal ion concentration in the solution has reached its peak. The solution is then passed to the SPE where the metallurgical process (electrolysis) philosophy, which transforms positive metal ions into solid metals and removes them.

At this point, clean water is returned to the reservoirs, where the metal ions (if any) are again precipitated and transformed into solids. The process repeatedly cycles to reach the clean drinking water standard.

"The results of this study can be used extensively for commercial purposes as well as in the areas of clean water pollution and metal recovery , " the researchers said.
