Chinese scientists say they have discovered 42 new glaciers on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau, also known as the 'world roof ', where the ice is currently shrinking due to global warming. .

According to China Daily , satellite images show a total of 42 glaciers in the Bomi district, located at 4,200 meters above sea level, where glaciers occupy about four fifths of China's glaciers. ' If this finding is confirmed, this will be the largest glacier cluster in the Qinghai-Tibet plateau ,' said Zhaxi Norbu, head of the Bomi district information agency.

China has about 46,000 glaciers, with a total area of ​​60,000 km 2 , mainly in Tibet and Xinjiang. In the past century, glaciers in this region have shrunk by about 30%.
