Julio Dalponte, one of the adventurers, discovered the differences on the new monkey's head and tail, features that were never known on other titi monkeys living in the same area.
The monkey was later sent to Geoldi Emilio Museum in Brazil to study, and it would take several months for zoologists to describe this newly discovered primate in detail.
During the trip, the expedition also discovered two new fish species including a catfish and a freshwater fish.
