Discover a ship with many treasures in Tonga

The diver in Tonga has discovered the ruins of a 200-year-old ship with a large amount of treasure, thought to be the legendary ship Port-au-Prince.

Port-au-Prince was attacked by local fighters in 1806 after arriving at Tonga. Many of the crew were executed at the behest of King Finau Ulukalala II.

The ship was once thought to be missing until a local diver discovered debris on the island of Foa, which had the same characteristics as the wrecked ship.

If the ship is under the seabed certified as the Port-au-Prince, the number of jewels may still be on board.

Sandra Fifita, spokesman for the Tonga Tourism Ministry, said: "The number of treasures on the ship is said to be a large amount of copper, silver and gold. In addition, the ship has many other valuable objects.

According to the Ministry of Tourism's announcement, local divers are currently delineating shipwrecks to continue their research.

The Port-au-Prince was designed in France but later occupied by Britain and put into use in 1805 as a disguised pirate ship, tasked with attacking and sinking French warships and Spain.
