Discover treasures in the Roman ship wrecked 1600 years ago

Israeli divers announced the discovery of treasure with many works of art in the Roman ship sunk 1,600 years ago.

The group of divers found the body of the Roman ship wrecked with many goods in the ship almost intact, which is considered the largest archaeological discovery in Israel in 30 years, according to Mirror. The Israeli archaeological agency said the ship had sunk 1,600 years ago, near the Caesarea harbor area dating back to ancient times.

Israeli archaeologists say what surprised them was that the ship was nearly intact, from wooden anchors to iron and copper items. Two outstanding features found on the boat are a bronze lamp simulating the figure of Sol Sun and the Moon Goddess Luna.

According to archaeologists, one of the biggest surprises is thousands of metal coins with a total weight of 20kg contained in porcelain. Jacob Sharvit, head of Israeli ocean archeology, said: "This discovery is extremely interesting. In addition to the extraordinary beauty, the artifacts are of historical value."

The position of shipwreck and artifacts shows that this is a merchant ship, carrying recycled metal. Archaeologists believe that the ship encountered a storm, hitting sea waves, reefs and being wrecked.
