Discover cliffs with more than 5,000 ancient dinosaur footprints
Cal Orcko in Bolivia is home to the most diverse and diverse fossil footprints, dating from the Cretaceous period. This place attracts many visitors to visit.
Located on the outskirts of the city of Sucre, Bolivia, the quarry of a cement plant has a vertical wall full of dinosaur footprints, exposed during the mine expansion. The area is named Cal Orcko (or Cal Orko) and is the area with the most dinosaur footprints in the world.(Photo: Hanumann / Flickr.)
This limestone flap is a huge size: 1.2 km long, 80 m high, with more than 5,000 fossil footprints, 462 separate roads, formed in the second half of the Cretaceous period. It used to be on the shore of a lake, attracting many herbivorous and carnivorous dinosaurs.(Photo: Gerardo Diego Ontiveros / Flickr.)
The feet of these animals sank into the soft ground in hot and humid weather, leaving footprints hard after decades of drought. After that, it rained again buried these footprints in mud and silt. This cycle is repeated 7 times, keeping many layers of footprints.Geological tectonic activities push the ground up high, creating a great perspective like today.(Photo: Jerry Daykin.)
These fossils were discovered by miners in Cal Orcko in 1985. However, until about 1994-1998, the importance of this area was confirmed, when a research team led by Christian paleontologist Meyer surveyed the cliff and identified the ground.(Photo: Bencito the Traveler / Flickr.)
According to Christian Meyer, this discovery has contributed greatly to mankind and science, revealing unprecedented data and "recording the high diversity of dinosaurs better than anywhere in the world" .Researching these fossils gives us information about dinosaur social behavior. The most distinctive trail of footprints of 347 meters long belonged to a uncle Tyrannosaurus Rex child with the nickname Johnny Walker.(Photo: Vincentraal / Flickr.)
In 2006, Cretaceous Park opened with a model of dinosaurs that left footprints on the cliff, a museum and an observatory 150 meters from the rock. This place attracts more than 120,000 visitors every year.Experts say Cal Orcko may have many precious footprints unearthed.(Photo: Ryan Greenberg / Flickr.)
