"A team of archaeologists working on the spot have uncovered carved stones scattered around a fireplace in the remains of a mysterious structure containing three tanks, two fireplaces and a ring of holes. packed with broken stones , " said the Orkney Center for Archeology Research (ORCA).

The area of the discovery of the mysterious objects is near Finstown, where Simon Hall, the Environmental Project Manager of Scotland's Southern Electric Network, said his organization has been working with ORCA for the past 18 months. The stones were found at the site of a proposed substation.

"We are delighted that the team has been able to find such an important significance at this site, hoping to continue to understand Orkney's rich heritage , " said Mr. Hall.

It is unclear what the fireplace was used for, but three of the stone objects were considered important enough for building occupants combined in one of the fireplaces.

The figures show that the strange stones are likely to be dated to around 2,000 BC.

"Very rarely found representatives of prehistoric Orkney people and when found, they were often individuals or in very small groups. If they were figurines, to find nine figures in one structure. The structure is very interesting and the archeology found at this site is likely to complement our understanding of prehistoric regional society , '' researcher Colin Richards said.
