Discover new orchid species in Ninh Thuan

Scientists have just announced a new orchid species named christmas incense in Ninh Thuan. This is the research result of the Vietnamese and Russian experts.

The new species is named Orchid orchid, Aerides phongii , in honor of Mr. Nguyen Phong, who discovered and sampled this orchid species in Vietnam. This is the eighth orchid species belonging to Aerides sp variety found in Vietnam and is the 12th species in the world.

According to the website of Vietnam Forest Creature, orchids have average size of 20cm to 30 cm, round cylindrical leaves, leaf stalks with unclear grooves about 20cm long. Their bodies do not branch. Orchids grow in clusters, flowers about 1cm big, light blue.

This species lives in the dry evergreen primeval forests along the tropical monsoon sea on silicate rocks at elevations above sea level 50-150m.
