Discover rhinoceros fossils Rhinoceros siensis near Ruc people

On October 4, Mr. Dinh Huy Tri, Deputy Director of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, said that two Ruc men in Yen Hop village, Thuong Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district discovered in an ancient cave. 3 fossilized specimens of a rhinoceros species called Rhinoceros siensis date back from 3 to 5 thousand years.

According to Tri, the two Ruc people discovered rhinoceros rhinoceros rhinos , Mr. Tran Xuan Bao and Tran Xuan Le, who led Mr. Dinh Huy Tri to the cave with a cave width of 2m, a height of 15m, a length of 20m, and the end of the cave. There is a pool of groundwater from the bottom up.

The first and the second specimen are two large animal teeth, the third is the jawbone with 4 teeth and 3 tooth holes, the black jaw bone.

After receiving the specimens, Mr. Dinh Huy Tri asked the Vietnam Archeology Association in Hanoi to identify the species names and dates of the above specimens.

Vietnam Archeology Association has assessed and responded by Document No. 20 / CV-KHCHVN issued by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Lan Cuong, General Secretary of the Association issued at the end of September 2019, confirming all 3 specimens collected in Yen Hop village, Thuong Hoa commune (Minh Hoa, Quang Binh) are fossilized teeth of Rhinoceros siensis (Owen) of the Rhinocerotidae family and the odd clogs (Pesissodactyla).

According to Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Lan Cuong: 'This species was found in sites of the middle and post-Neo-Pleistocene period dating from tens of thousands to tens of thousands of years like; Tham Khuyen, Tham Hai, Keo Leng (Lang Son), Hang Lobster (Yen Bai), Tham Om (Nghe An), Nham Duong (Hai Duong) and many locations of Hoa Binh culture.

But finding a jaw line like specimen 3, so far, only the location of Le Leng (Lang Son) and Nham Duong (Hai Duong).

Therefore, sample No. 3 of Yen Hop is an extremely valuable specimen. Based on the weight of the fossils and the hardness of the sediments, we believe that all three fossils date from 5 to 30,000 years ago. '

According to Dinh Huy Tri, at the end of October 2019, the Vietnam Archeological Society will enter this cave archaeological site in Yen Hop, the cave's indigenous name is not disclosed to avoid unnecessary curiosities for the purpose of preserving the status quo within it.

It is known that the cave is located in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.
