Discover the strange stone river in Russia

Tourists are surprised to arrive at the river full of giant rocks in southern Russia.

The Big Stone rock consists of giant rocks lying cluttered on an average of 200m wide and 6km long along the slopes of Taganay in southern Ural in the territory of Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia.

Thisrockystreamformed after a giant rock fall about 10,000 years ago.At that time, the snow covered the peaks of the Taganay mountain range of 4,800m.

The weight of the giant ice block crumbles the top of the mountain into millions of large rocks.When the ice melts, the rocks slide down, a regular strip from the top to the foot of the mountain, forming the Big Stone rock today.

Although called rivers, the rocks have not moved for thousands of years.

The majority of the rocks under the Big Stone River are quartz stones.Each stone has a mass of 9-10 tons and the stone layers here are 6 m thick.Visitors can hear the water flowing from the small stream under the rocks.

Big Stone is not the only stone river in the world.Similar rocky rivers are also found in other areas of the Ural Mountains.In addition to Russia, some rocky rivers also appear on Mount Vitosha in Bulgaria (photo).

One of the longest rocky rivers in the Vitosha mountains is located upstream of the Vladayska river on the Subalpine plateau.It is over 2km long.

Another rocky river with a width of 300m in Vitoshka Bistritsa valley and some other rocks in Mount Vitosha are formed on the mountain slopes.
