According to Sina, this Bronze Age temple was used for the purpose of worshiping the Sun , first discovered in 1993, but excavations were only started at the end of last year. The excavation results show that the structure of this temple has similarities with the temples that were previously only seen further west of the Eurasian plains.

These Sun temples were built by nomadic tribes, algae on the vast Eurasian steppe. However, archaeologists had never discovered a heavenly temple in the East before.

Liu Chuan-ming, one of the archaeologists who studied the site, said the finding demonstrates that ancient culture in Xinjiang had striking similarities with other areas in Central Asia.

'It shows that the Central Highlands culture has reached the foot of the Tianshan Mountains in the Bayanbulak steppe, making the Silk Road possible to the end of the country,' said Liu Chuan-ming.
