The graves found in Bizhou city are mostly about two meters long and one meter wide. They are located beneath a large lake and are discovered when the lake is drained.

Xinhua quoted Ma Yongqiang, a researcher at the Institute of Archeology of Nanjing Museum, who said the tombs were identified from the Eastern Han Dynasty (24-220 AD). The graves were buried at a depth of about 20-30cm and about 20 graves were looted.

According to Ma, the discovery of many Han dynasty tombs is a rare and valuable discovery for the study of burial rites of this historical period. The team hopes to discover that it will provide important research information about the life and culture of the Han Dynasty.
