Discovering herbs helps the centenarians

Rosemary can be the secret to helping people live for 100 years, according to experts working on 300 elderly elderly people in a remote village in Italy.

On the first floor, groups of medical experts were allowed to access and examine residents in Acciaroli, a small coastal village near the Italian Salerno resort. Located between the sea and the mountains, the area is home to only a few thousand people, but among them there are currently at least 300 men and women who are over 100 years old.

This fact is unusual if compared with other places, such as in the US, where the proportion of people living over 100 years old on the total population is only 0.02%. Another special thing discovered in Acciaroli's senior population is that they don't even suffer from Alzheimer's heart disease and dementia.

There are many opinions that, one of the main factors that help the grandparents, Mrs. Acciaroli live a long life and suffer from physical and mental illnesses is a typical diet of the Mediterranean , capital. Famous for being healthy and very popular throughout the region. However, according to researchers from the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego (USA) and University of Rome (Italy), rosemary is especially used in their cooking.

Other influencing factors are considered to be clean air and walking. According to researchers, residents in Acciaroli often walk through the mountains to work or shop every day.

The conclusion was drawn after researchers conducted a thorough review of diets, lifestyles, blood samples and the results of answering comprehensive surveys for 300 people living over 100 years of age in Acciaroli.

American doctor and professor Alan Maisel further explains: "The goal of this long-term study is to find out why this group of seniors is so long-lived by conducting a comprehensive genetic analysis. as well as investigating lifestyle behaviors, such as nutrition and exercise, can be applied at our health care facilities and to other patients at all around the world".
