Discovering new plants in Cao Bang

The new species was discovered under the evergreen broadleaf forest, in the strictly protected area of ​​Phia oac-Phia Den, Cao Bang.

In the process of surveying the diversity of a number of plant groups in northern Vietnam, scientists have discovered new plant species. It has the scientific name is Oreocharis caobangensis TV Do, YG Wei & F. Wen, sp. nov.

Cao bangensis is characterized by leaf stalks with many light brown hairs; The leaf blade has a feathered tendon with 6-8 side veins. Their flowers are purple, the outer surface has fine hair; Smooth flower pistil 18-20cm long.

The team found them under the moist, evergreen broadleaf forest canopy, along the stream in the strictly protected area of ​​Phia Dac Phia National Park.

The research results are published in the Phytotaxa 302 specialized journal (2017). This is the result of cooperation between the Vietnam Museum of Nature (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) and Quang Tay Botanical Institute (Chinese Academy of Sciences).
