Ducks have wingspan by plane

They belonged to the duck family, but had " teeth " and a wingspan of approximately 5 meters, wide enough to cover a car. In the sky, they look like small planes.

A team of experts from Senckenberg Research Institute in Frankfurt, Germany discovered fossil skulls of a clay giant duck on Sheppey Island, Kent, England. Their wingspan is about 4.9 meters.

"Imagine an animal like a sea goose, which is about the same size as a small plane. According to modern biological standards, they are ducks, but the extraordinary thing is that they have many spines like teeth along the ledge, "said Dr. Gerald Mayr, a member of the expert team.

According to the research team, Dasornis, the name of this bird, once hovered in the sky over England about 50 million years ago. Like all modern birds, their mines are made up of keratin. However, Dasornis's sharp spines may be just dentures.

"None of the modern birds have real teeth because their ancestors threw teeth more than 100 million years ago to reduce body weight and make flying easier," Gerald explained.

Fossils are on display at the Karlsruhe Natural History Museum in Germany.
