Earthquake disaster in Indonesia: The number of deaths increased to 380
Indonesian officials have confirmed the number of victims killed in the devastating earthquake in Lombok has exceeded 380 people and may continue to increase as the search for the body is completed.
TASS news agency (Russia) quoted Zainul Majdi, West Nusa Tenggara provincial governor, confirming that as of August 5, the number of victims killed in the magnitude 6.9 earthquake shook Indonesia's island of Lombok. last week was 381 people. According to Mr. Majdi, more than 1,000 people were injured due to the earthquake, of which 670 were seriously injured. In addition, more than 270,000 people had to leave their homes to evacuate to safety.

Indonesia's state-owned news agency Antara said most of the victims died in the Kayangan area north of Lombok Island - where some 200,000 people live. The Indonesian government on August 7 estimated that about 20,000 people are in need of assistance and about 80% of houses have been destroyed after the earthquake disaster.
'We fear that trucks carrying relief goods cannot be moved due to the rubble, along with landslides. Many people have lost their homes and have to move to hilly areas because of the tsunami , 'said Husni Husni, representative of the Red Cross in Jarkarta.
While still actively involved in overcoming the consequences of the earthquake, rescue forces warned it would take several days to fully determine the damage to the disaster.
'We are still awaiting evaluation results from some more remote areas in the north of the island, but clearly the devastation of the earthquake is huge,' said Christopher Rassi, head of the assessment team for Lien. International Union of Red Cross and Red Crescent Society, said.
The Red Cross on August 7 said all 2,000 tourists on the Gili Islands were evacuated. Images published by Indonesian officials show that hundreds of people, mostly foreign tourists, flocked to the coast on Gili Trawangan Island to wait for evacuation. Rescuers are rushing to evacuate tourists from three islands on the Gili Islands, which are near the epicenter of the earthquake in Lombok.
