Northern Vietnam will experience cold, rainy weather during the Lunar New Year of the Dragon 2024.

On the 27th and 28th of the twelfth lunar month, a cold front will sweep into the North, followed by another intensification on the first day of Tet, bringing cold rain and temperatures in the plains ranging from 14 to 23 degrees Celsius.

According to Mr. Vu Van Thang, Director of the Center for Meteorological and Climate Research (Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change), after the severe cold spell from January 22-29, from January 30 to February 5 (i.e., the 20th-26th of the lunar month), the North will experience warm sunshine , with temperatures ranging from 19-26 degrees Celsius, except for some mountainous areas which will still experience severe cold.

From February 6th to 9th (December 27th to the 2nd day of Tet), a cold front swept down, bringing chilly weather to the North, with spring rain on the nights and mornings of the 1st and 2nd days of Tet . Temperatures in the plains ranged from a low of 15-17 degrees Celsius to a high of 20-23 degrees Celsius, with the highest temperatures reaching 23-24 degrees Celsius on the last day of the Year of the Rabbit and the first day of the Year of the Dragon.

Due to its high altitude, the Northwest region experiences low temperatures of 13-15 degrees Celsius, with mountainous areas reaching 10-12 degrees Celsius; the highest temperatures are 20-22 degrees Celsius. The Northeast region experiences low temperatures of 14-16 degrees Celsius, with mountainous areas reaching 12-14 degrees Celsius; the highest temperatures are 20-22 degrees Celsius.

Mr. Hoang Phuc Lam, Deputy Director of the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, also predicted that from February 6-12 (27th of the lunar month to the 3rd day of Tet), the North will be affected by a cold front , but it is unlikely to be as strong as the current one, so it will not cause hailstorms or thunderstorms like Tet 2020. The cold front shifting eastward will bring moisture from the sea, causing light rain and drizzle at night and in the morning.

Due to the influence of a cold front, the central provinces will experience cold weather until the 29th of the lunar month, with rain. Rain will decrease on the last day of the year and New Year's Eve, and temperatures will rise; sunny weather is possible on the 2nd and 3rd days of Tet. Northern Central Vietnam will have lows of 17-19 degrees Celsius and highs of 23-25 ​​degrees Celsius. Southern Central Vietnam will have lows of 21-25 degrees Celsius and highs of 25-27 degrees Celsius.

Southern Vietnam and the Central Highlands are forecast to have sunny weather, while the Southeast region will experience localized heatwaves (daily maximum temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius or higher). During Tet, nighttime temperatures in Ho Chi Minh City will be around 23 degrees Celsius, and daytime temperatures will reach 35-36 degrees Celsius.
